What a year it's been!!!
 
The facts are undeniable. A drop in clients' visits throughout the nation. Bargain-filled fliers from discount chains like WalMart, Target and Best Buy drawing consumers by the droves and leaving high-end retailers in the dust. Even powerhouses such as Nordstrom, Coach and Abrecrombie & Fitch are feeling the pain.
 
According to a major newspaper, "People are cheaping out and sticking to the essentialss." And unfortunately, in the mind of the consumer, spa products and services are still considered non-essential luxuries.

The unbiased DSA workshops welcomed many new start-ups and gave many of the attendees some great marketing ideas.

Caribbean mapCaribbean Health Tourism & Spa Symposium was held in Kingston, Jamaica. Our US delegates to this show were Dr. Reinhard Bergel, Eric Light and Hannelore Leavy.
 
Eric addressed attendees at the 9th Annual Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development held at the Westin Casuarina Resort & Spa in Grand Caymon in the Caymon Islands. In a session called "Health Tourism - alternate Strategies For the Caribbean," Eric discussed global consumer trends and how they will affect the marketing of today's business and strategies on using the natural resources of the Caribbean.

Tourism ExpoThe Caribbean Health Tourism Symposium will be held again in Kingston, Jamaica March 15 - 16.

During the cruise, an event staged by SpaCare - the charitable arm of the DSA - guests enjoyed beautiful views of New York City's famous skyline over cocktails and dinner; as well as networked with spa industry professionals, including the industry leaders of the Day Spa Association and the International Medical Spa Association Advisory Boards. A new course was charted for future events to help those in need. And, we danced the night away!
