Tradeshow News
We are getting ready for the IECSC in Las Vegas May 01-03 - if you are planning to attend, make sure you drop by at booths #1258/ 1260 and say hello.
If you have some time to spare, we would appreciate your help in manning the booth or taking some brochures around the trade show floor to spread goodwill for the Day Spa Association.

Don't miss our workshop on Saturday Morning 9am-11am titled: Show Me The Money - How to REALLY Succeed in Business. Alan Share of New Life Systems, Douglas Preston of Preston, Inc. and Skip Williams of Resources and Development will share with attendees the secrets how "squeezing more profit out of your spa" and "The Art of Spa Service and Retail Sales."

Should you stay for the post conference our Mystery Workshop II - My Spa's On Fire and I Can't Put It out - Managing Crisis - you will not regret it! This brainchild of Eric Light of the Strawberry Hill Group will certainly help you in getting prepared for any crisis in your day spa or medical spa.

Next on the agenda is Spa and Resort Expo in New York City May 22 + 23. This show organized by Reed Expo is gaining in popularity and importance in the spa industry. Although their educational concept does not allow workshops by an organization such as ours, there are several DSA members who are included in the program: Eric Light, John Buckingham, Janice Gronvold, Bruce Schoenberg, Doug Preston - be sure not to miss them!

DSA members are entitled to a VIP pass, which gives you FREE admission to the tradeshow floor and a 20% discount on all educational classes. To receive your complimentary VIP pass, please email Barbara@dayspaassociation.com. In order to receive the 20% discount on educational classes, you need to call Diana Press at 800.363.3631 (Spa & Resort Expo) and tell her that you are a member of the DSA.

Don't miss the Santa Barbara Beauty Expo 2005 June 5 + 6 endorsed by the DSA - for more information in regard to exhibiting and to receive your advanced registration call 805-687-8132 or 805-964-8675 www.sbbeautyexpo.com

DSA's Tradeshow Calendar....
Happy Spring Everyone,

As nature is awakening from its winter sleep, so is the industry emerging with a full season of trade shows and conferences.
We have updated our tradeshow calendar on www.dayspaassociation.com and I am pleased to say that I think we have the most comprehensive listing of industry trade shows throughout the world. Check it out - participation by the DSA is noted accordingly.

Spafully,

  • Returning from a very lively panel discussion at LifeTime Congress in Frankfurt, Germany, at which I presented "The Merging of Old and New and East and West", I had the pleasure of meeting many old friends from around the world, going back to the first Spa Symposium I coordinated in 1990!

I also made new friends and will be reporting on this and my post conference spa trips to Wiesbaden and Baden-Baden in the DSA monthly column in Spa Management Journal.

Ex-tracts, New York City is just behind us and I would like to thank members Janet D'Angelo, Linda Brewer and Bruce Schoenberg for participating in an excellent presentation "How to Open a Day Spa". Thank you to George Little Show Management, the organizers of Ex-tracts, for their courtesies and collaboration. Attendees came away with a good sense of what it takes to open and operate a successful day spa business.

We are working on a full-day educational program for their next show 11/12-15 in New York City, which will take please in conjunction with the Hotel/Motel and Restaurant Expo.

Nicole Sommers of Gents LLC conducted a workshop -
"THE PRICE OF BEING CLEAN SHOULDN'T BE YOUR HEALTH!!!
Do you realize that many chemicals linked to cancer, birth defects and other health problems are getting into your bodies, your breast milk and your children? These chemicals are in the products you shower and bathe with, rub, spray and dab on your bodies, unknowingly, day-in and day-out. Did you know that major loopholes in federal law allow the multibillion dollar cosmetics industry to basically police itself with an internally-funded safety panel? Unlimited amounts of chemicals are allowed into personal care products with no required testing and inadequate labeling requirements.

If you missed the event on April 20th in NYC to learn about Natural Alternatives, which took place in NYC, contact Nicole Sommers @ 212 734-8348 and learn that contrary to popular perception, the FDA does not evaluate products for safety before they are brought to market. Read about the steps being taken by the European Union to protect its 450 million people with laws prohibiting the use of many ingredients in personal care products. ACT: Sign the petition found at the website so that we can make companies accountable for our and our clients' safety.
